Working predominantly in oils and acrylics, Jacob Gourley is a representational painter whose practice explores the boundaries between realism and abstraction. His paintings often have a dream-like quality, whereby figures dissolve into or emerge out of semi-ambiguous backgrounds. At the heart of Jacob’s practice is keen attention to the artwork’s formal qualities, such as shape, tone, edges, colour, and composition.

To date, Gourley has exhibited in a number of group and solo shows, and was awarded 1st Prize in the Wirral Society of Arts Open exhibition in 2019 for his painting ‘82 - St John’s to Toxteth’.

Currently he is working from his Shropshire home studio and is taking on commissions.

Jacob joined us in Winterbourne in the summer 2023 for 2 fantastic oil painting workshops.
